Waco does the Christmas season well. We may not have snow, our temperatures may fluctuate, but we make up for it with loads of Christmas cheer. But just a heads up—most of the Christmas things to do in Waco fall early in the first part of December. So gear up and get your best Christmas sweater ready.
December 1st-3rd (kickoff)
Our 3rd annual Waco Wonderland starts this weekend! The big tree is fully lit, the carriage rides are ready for you and your significant other to cozy up on, the ‘snowy’ hills are all set up to sled down, and petting zoo animals are posted up waiting for you to hand them some treats. This is one of those events that not only gives the people of Waco something to do, but it makes our downtown festive and fun. We are big fans.
Christmas at the Silos
Christmas at the Silos is this Saturday and it is going to be a festive event. The Polar Express will be playing, the grounds are decorated with all kinds of beautiful twinkly lights—and rumour has it Santa will be there for pictures. The concert is currently sold out, but the daytime activities are free and fun for the whole family! Check it out.
Winter Wonderland Parade
December 2nd at 10am
This Saturday the Christmas season officially kicks off with a parade through the downtown. We are fans of any kind of parade because parades bring communal camaraderie; but we are especially fond of the kind of parades that include Santa Clause.
Waco Wonderland Run
December 2nd at 8am
Run off all the Christmas cookies you will inevitably be eating this season with a festive run around Waco for the Waco Wonderland Run. Because it’s Christmas themed…wearing Christmas socks are not only welcome, but highly encouraged.
First Friday—Hot Cocoa edition
Grab a mug and tour Waco with hot cocoa in hand. The hot cocoa crawl speciality this First Friday is going to be quite fun. In addition to the hot cocoa, the stores of downtown Waco will be hosting all kinds of festive activities. So bundle up and explore downtown.
Christmas Light in Castle Heights
Now – December 12th
The best way to see Christmas lights in Waco is with a cup of hot cocoa, Christmas music setting the mood—and with 14 of your best pals on a pedal bike. Waco Pedal Tours is doing a soft launch Christmas Lights tour until December 12th, so you’ve got to get your reservations in early.
Sip and Shop at Balcones
December 1st 4pm – 8pm
Local artisans are setting up a market at Balcones to help you get your Christmas shopping done early this year. Shopping with a glass of whiskey in hand makes the whole experience quite wonderful and we applaud the kind person who thought of this wonderful idea.
White Buffalo Market
If you haven’t gotten the chance to check them out yet, stop by for their holiday special and cross people off of your holiday list! Their shopping is vendor style and chalked full of unique finds that your relatives won’t receive from anyone else.
Holiday Night Market at Heritage Square
December 8th at 5 pm
The Downtown Waco Farmers Market is celebrating the season with an evening holiday market full of festive booths and specials. Stop by and enjoy the downtown atmosphere.
Holly Jolly Concert by the Waco Symphony Orchestra
We firmly believe in dressing up and enjoying a show as part of the Christmas season—and the Waco Symphony provides that perfect event.
Christmas Movies at the Hippodrome
Now through December
Nothing puts you in the Christmas Spirit quite like Christmas movies. The Hippodrome will be playing them throughout the month so be sure to grab the whole family and catch a show.
There’s a lot going on this weekend so we created an itinerary to ensure you experience all that you need.
Start the evening off with some shopping downtown to get some items off of your Christmas list. We’d recommend checking out Gather and Wildand—their storefronts are quite festive and they’ll be doing some First Friday Specials.
Grab a bite to eat downtown. Clay pot’s new location is quite lovely.
The Cocoa Crawl is going on at various places downtown. All you’ve got to do is get a mug for $10 and you can stop at various places to pick up some hot cocoa. Make your rounds but be sure to stop at 712 Cultivate to fill up your mug. This is arguably one of our favorite event spaces to open up.
End the evening sipping and shopping at Balcones and you’ve not only had a festive evening, but a productive one if you get to check people off your shopping list.
Start your day with the Waco Wonderland 5k at 8 am to burn off all that hot cocoa you consumed the night before
After finishing up your running, grab some coffee and a muffin downtown and find a good spot for the Waco Wonderland parade! It’s going to be a good time.
Hop on the Silo District Trolley to head over to Magnolia Market to experience a whole slew of festive fun. Grab your pic with Santa while you’re at it!
After you’ve done some more shopping (and pat yourself on the back for being so ahead of the curve this season) grab a bite to eat at the Silos and top it of with a seasonal cupcake or cream-pie (or both let’s be real it’s hard to choose)
Hop back on the trolley to catch a ride to the Waco Wonderland festivities and you’ve hit all the rounds of Christmas cheer in one weekend.
Go forth and be festive, friends.
